The muddy bottoms and sandbars of the cimmeron were enough problem for early stage coaches to cross.  Then, out of nowhere, a Cheyenne war party appears.  I can visualize it now, and almost hear the shotgun rider exclaim, "What the Hell!"  Artist:  Robert Learned Hand
